Most often, learning is discussed in relation to formal education, which has been seen as a silver bullet for development. Development research has shown how education contributes to economic growth, increases cultural capital, reduces inequalities, enables democratic society, empowers women, and widens the possibilities to choose. This research based anthology is the result of a collaboration between teacher educators, researchers and representatives of teacher organizations in Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Some initial results of the studies introduced in this book have been shared with the international research community in the field at conferences in Europe in 2018 and 2019.

Since its humble beginnings in 1972, the Nordic Educational Research Association (NERA) or Nordisk Förening för Pedagogisk Forskning (NFPF) has established itself as the largest meeting place for educational researchers in the Nordic countries.
